TextoGuide
Marketplace In world demo An information device a bit like the AudioGuides you get in Real life museums and exhibitions
The system is made of 3 parts:
- The TextoGuide HUD. A free HUD everyone can have and distribute
- The TextoGuide Server. That transmits informations to the TextoGuide HUDs in the region
- The TextoGuide config HUD. Used to prepare informations for TextoGuide HUDs
- The TextoGuide attacher. To attach the HUD to anyone stepping on it. (or give to those touching) unless they already wear one.
- If Blaise experience is enabled on land and the user allowed it, HUD will directly attach and start Otherwise visitor will get a “permission to attach” request
When a visitor wears his TextoGuide HUD, resets it by clicking on it or teleports.
The HUD will get informations from server and start. When visitor moves, his position is checked to find if he is inside a point detection range. If so, the corresponding text is chatted to visitor in private then the point is deleted from his list. He won't get it twice.
Optionally (options changeables by special commands):
- HUD can show a compass pointing to next unexplored point
- HUD can have a TP button to directly jump to that point
HUD is not specific to a place. Same HUD will work at all places using TextoGuide system
configure the system
Owner wears the TextoGuide config HUD There are two ways to use it: in one phase or two phases
- Click “Reset” button on the hud
- (for one phase) create a new notecard in your inventory and open it. Notecard name MUST start with *
- Go to the first point where you want something told to visitors
- Adjust the detection radius and height to set at what distance around you point detection will occur. too small radius might not be detected if visitor walks to fast. too big height might cause problems if your place has multiple floors. When you change those values, a red semi-transparent ring will be rezzed around you during 10 seconds so you can figure
- Orient yourself. Angle of your camera will be used as orientation when user uses the teleport button
- Click the “New point” button. A textBox will appear
- Type a short name for that point and “Submit”. Point is created
- one phase method
- copy the POINT|….. line you just got in local chat and paste it in your notecard. then type your text below it in notecardas many less than 256 chars lines as you want.
- To get your visitor to focus on a detail you can make their camera aim to something. place your camera where you want but not to close, not all viewers have same camera angle and screen ratio
- Click the “Zoom” button. A Zoom line will be chatted in private
- visitor camera will stay there till next Zoom command or end of text
- a ZOOM only line, without parameters will free the camera
- Optionally you can consider placing a logo on the floor. Especially if your radius is small and spots difficult to find
- Proceed to next point, adjust radius and height if needed and Click the “New point” to continue.
- two phases method
- when all the points are stored. Click the “Save” button
- all the points will be listed in local chat. copy all of them. Paste in a new notecard with name starting with * then insert your text lines between “POINT|…” lines. You do not have to remove the “[05:39] TextoGuide config HUD: ” headers
- Rez your TextoGuide server somewhere close to your place and add your notecard into its content
Done!
Multiple languages
You can add other notecards in the server. they can be translations of the first one in other languages. Visitors will get a menu to choose which they want. Notecard names must start with * *English, *French etc
If you need special characters on the laguage menu, use provided UUencoder tool.
- Rez it, click it then say your language. Example Français.
- tool will answer Français» Fran%C3%A7ais
- name your notecard *Fran%C3%A7ais
You can modify your notecard inside the server at any time. the POINT syntax is:
